Traditionally, 24-HOUR DRONE has kicked the Basilica Hudson season into bloom, and been a sacred wake-up call for our building in her winter hibernation. However, due to COVID-19, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel the in-person event. For our spirits and our creative community, we remained committed to continuing 24-HOUR DRONE, and to activating those 24 HOURS of sound in a new world way with Basilica’s long-standing co-presenters Le Guess Who?.

The 2020 DRONE schedule began with embedded streams presented by our partners, collaborators, artists originally scheduled to perform at the in-person event, and artists from THE DRONE WIDE WEB. THE DRONE WIDE WEB is a compilation of streams from DRONE alumni and those who responded to our open call for streams.

This page serves as an archive of the streams we were given permission to use, but does not feature the full lineup, which you can view HERE. Over 200 artists participated in our global DRONE AT HOME, making it the biggest DRONE to date. Read the full recap.

Below are archived streams from our old partners in DRONE , our more recent partners , and some even newer friends. This list also includes artists originally scheduled to perform during 24-HOUR DRONE 2020 at Basilica, indicated with a 🔭.

Automatic Aleatoric

Chicago, IL

24 hours streamed live out of the lab using 100% open-source software and vacuum tube oscillators and a programmed animation. It will slowly shift over a long period of time. Much like the background oscillator and video screenings normally present at Basilica’s DRONE — when nothing else is happening, in between other performances, or when you want a change of pace — zone out to this automatic aleatoric stream. Headphones suggested. Automatic Aleatoric is Charles G. Waldman, two-time DRONE alum.

🔭 Gesture of Friendship: 100 Years of the Theremin

Hudson, NY
Listen here

A duet with an empty Basilica.

This piece is an improvised duet between a theremin (played by DRONE Co-Curator SVB) and Basilica Hudson — the building itself (played by members of the Basilica team: Dr. Roman G. Horst, Sarah Roberts Hale and Allie Young). Performed at midnight, on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

From SVB: “I chose to play theremin as 2020 marks the centennial anniversary of the invention of the instrument by Leon Theremin. Afterwards, I live-mixed in a 75% slowed soundtrack to a short documentary film that Tony Stone, Miles Joris-Peyrafitte and Maxwell Paparella made of our very first 24-HOUR DRONE at Basilica in 2015. The result is a one-hour meditation on DRONE and its relationship to the building, Basilica Hudson.

All proceeds from the sale of this album will go towards Basilica Hudson — the organization. Hopefully in brighter days ahead, it can continue to present programs like 24-HOUR DRONE.”

Virtual Kiln Film Installation: Threshold

(Meditation Edit for Merwin Conservancy)
Sit down inside W.S. Merwin’s hand-built garden dojo. Immerse yourself in the sounds of his palm forest, deep in the Pe‘ahi Stream valley, on Maui’s rugged and rural north coast. This new edit of Threshold is a meditative video created by artist duo Susannah Sayler and Edward Morris (Sayler / Morris and The Canary Project), in collaboration with The Merwin Conservancy, as an offering of sanctuary in a time of crisis. The filmmakers wish to thank W.S. Merwin and Paula Merwin for generously welcoming them to film at their home in 2016.
