Things Remembered is Joe MamaNitzberg‘s first solo exhibition in the Hudson Valley. Comprised of new work of various media, it is a further exploration of Mama-Nitzberg’s recurring interests in Memory, Technology and Language. Combing such disparate elements and strategies as autobiography, music videos, painting, poetry, search engines etc., the artist deftly balances the comic and the tragic without seeming to privilege either.

This exhibition continues Basilica Hudson’s 2018 Back Gallery artist in residency program. The series invites artists to explore the location itself as muse and to create work with the eclectic present and past of this river city as central inspiration.

Back Gallery Opening events are the culmination of artists spending time in and experiencing the space, before opening it up to the public.

Joe Mama-Nitzberg lives and works in Catskill, New York. He received his MFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. He works in various forms and media including photography, video and collage. His work has been featured in exhibitions at Grant Wahlquist Gallery, Gallerie Catherine Bastide, Regina Rex, David Zwirner, Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, the Seattle Museum of Art, the Salzburger Kunstverein, the Renaissance Society, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark), and White Columns, among others. Mr. Mama-Nitzberg is a frequent contributor to Frog Magazine. His work is in the collection of the Walker Art Center and he is a recent recipient of an Art Matters Grant.
