Basilica Hudson returns to the Greenville Drive-In for the sixth and final installment of the Basilica Non-Fiction Screening Series with Gather, directed by Sanjay Rawal.

This event is free, with a suggested donation of $15 per car at the box office or made online to help sustain Basilica Hudson and support filmmakers. Come early to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a delicious drink in the biergarten.

Gather follows the stories of Indigenous people on the frontlines of a growing movement to re-connect with spiritual and cultural identities that were devastated by genocide.

A Indigenous chef embarks on a ambitious project to reclaim ancient food ways on the Apache reservation; in South Dakota a gifted Lakota high school student, raised on a buffalo ranch, is proving her tribes native wisdom through her passion for science; and a group of young men of the Yurok tribe in Northern California are struggling to keep their culture alive and rehabilitate the habitat of their sacred salmon.

All these stories combine to show how the reclaiming and recovery of ancient food ways is a way forward for native Americans to bring back health and vitality to their people.

ABOUT THE BASILICA NON-FICTION SCREENING SERIES

This screening is part of Basilica Hudson’s Basilica Non-Fiction Screening Series, which explores the documentary genre through screenings and dialogue with visiting directors. Despite the fact that our screening room has temporarily closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, we remain committed to bringing independent film to the Hudson Valley. Basilica Hudson is thrilled to partner with the Greenville Drive-In to move the Basilica Non-Fiction Screening Series OUTDOORS for 2021.

Now in its 10th year, Basilica’s film program has displayed a long-standing commitment to bringing independent and innovative voices in film to the Hudson waterfront, through new and repertory film and video art, often with filmmakers and special guests in conversation.

This free screening is made possible by Leigh and Dwight of the Greenville Drive-in. Basilica Hudson’s Film and Media program is generously supported, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of The New York State Governor and the New York State Legislature.
