Announcing extended line-up, with more to come, for Basilica SoundScape 2014 – a carefully curated two-day program on September 12th and 13th featuring a wide range of music, visual art, and literature that aims for specific connections and overlaps instead of “festival”-style overload.

Friday’s line-up programmed by Brian DeRan of Leg Up presents legendary New York psych band Endless Boogie, a performance from the Balinese ensemble Gamelan Dharma Swara playing in a traditional percussive orchestra, musician and sound artist Tim Hecker, the breezy and resonant Julia Holter, and a headlining set from Richard Reed Parry (multi-instrumentalist of Arcade Fire), who will perform material from his upcoming solo album, Music for Heart and Breath.

Saturday’s Show No Mercy-presented lineup features the previously announced experimental rock band Swans and Deafheaven (in both bands’ only area appearances!) and is rounded out by Vancouver-based punk group White Lung (as well as a reading by White Lung frontwoman Mish Way), a reading by Perfect Pussy frontwoman Meredith Graves, a set by music project Guardian Alien with additional solo sets by their drummer Greg Fox (also of Liturgy, Ben Frost, Dan Deacon, Zs,) and a set by nomadic dream-pop artist Emily Reo.

Acclaimed visual artist Sterling Ruby will create large-scale quilt-like flags as backdrops for the main stage. Ruby’s flags are sewn together from black and blue bleached denim and dyed canvas in shades of acid orange, yellows, purples and reds.

The weekend will also include visual arts, performance art, readings, farm to table food and more. These will all be announced soon. Closer to the event, Basilica SoundScape will provide information about camping, hotel and B&B housing.

Advance Tickets are $35 per night, and $60 for the weekend. Purchase tickets here!

We are thrilled that this year Basilica Soundscape will take place the same weekend as Groundswell, an afternoon exhibition event at the Olana State Historic Site, located just five minutes from Basilica Hudson. Produced by Wave Farm’s WGXC and The Olana Partnership, Groundswell (Saturday, September 13 from 2 – 6 p.m.) features site-specific performance and works by Kenseth Armstead, William Basinski, Steve Bull, Jane Carver, Ellen Driscoll, Michael Garofalo, Mckendree Key, Hélène Lesterlin, Jack Magai, Man Forever, Laura Ortman, Mau Schoettle, and Bryan Zimmerman set amongst the Hudson Valley’s most breathtaking and integral viewshed.

To complete and end the weekend on a high note Second Ward Foundation presents “440Hz” on Sunday September 14th. The evening will include experimental sound, projections and compositions in the auditorium of a former school building featuring William Basinski, Buke and Gase, C. Lavender and Ami Dang with Slag Ralden. Doors 7PM. $15 Suggested Donation. Second Ward Foundation is located at 71 North Third Street just a few blocks from Basilica Hudson.
