For the fifth year in a row Basilica SoundScape presented immersive spoken word performances, setting a dramatic stage for another ambitious and wide-ranging literary element. Set in the rafters of our solar-powered reclaimed industrial factory, the audience were captivated by the power of the spoken word from Hermione Hoby, Hanif Abdurraqib and Melissa Tuckey.
Several performances were supported this year in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
Sunday’s free lineup once again saw contributions from exciting local writers and performers of color, with writer/performer/curator Shanekia McIntosh and poet Joey De Jesus both performing and helming a multi-disciplinary bill to close out the weekend.
