A still life (plural still lifes) is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, fruit, dead animals, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, pipes, coins, iphones, and so on).

As an art historical tradition, the still life creates relationships through the arrangement of everyday objects. Composed of sculpture, video, furniture, food, painting, sound, movement and discussion, this exhibition reimagines the still life as a living arrangement, activated by the bringing together of works and programs by artists of diverse backgrounds into a single community space.

HQTBD / Headquarters To Be Determined is a parasite project that inhabits and programs various spaces in Hudson, NY. The first iteration will take place in the Back Gallery at Basilica Hudson from May 22 – June 14. HQTBD will serve as a container and framework for an exhibition and a series of events– performances, screenings, talks, and food. It will also function as a temporary headquarters for the community, open for local hours, serving coffee and juice throughout the week.  HQTBD is organized by Hannah Black, Elise McMahon, Aily Nash, and Jon Wang.

The programs for the opening night of the exhibition include a screening of moving image works by three artists in the exhibition, Many Thousands Gone (2015) by Ephraim Asili, Kissing Point and Lessons of War (both 2014) by Peggy Ahwesh, and Om Rider (2014) by Takeshi Murata. All three artists will be present to discuss their work.
