​​In a precursor to Basilica Soundscape on September 11 – 13, Godspeed You! Black Emperor will perform a special warm-up show on the heels of their new album Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress.

The legendary, operatic post-rock band from Montreal Canada last performed at Basilica in 2012. The GYBE show is ticketed separately at $20, but with a special $60 discount weekend pass available to all GYBE show attendees for those who want the full upstate soundscape experience.

Since 1995, Godspeed You! Black Emperor is known for mounting sense-rattling wall-of-sound performances, marked by orchestral dynamics, epic rock power, and clunky beautiful film loops. Recruiting numerous Montreal musicians, the band has featured as many as 14 performers and put forth 5 albums to widespread critical acclaim. BBC music has hailed their work as “challenging, intense, evocative” and their 2012 album was rated 9.3/10 by Pitchfork and rated an Album of the Year.

Opening the GYBE show will be Xylouris White, a collaboration between legendary Cretan lute player George Xylouris and Jim White, icon of underground music.

The GYBE show is the warm-up to Basilica Soundscape, a carefully curated two-day event that’s been called “the anti-festival” by various publications for offering of a thoughtful mix of music, visual art, and literature. Basilica Soundscape takes place this year in Hudson, NY on September 11 – 13 and features Perfume Genius, Haxan Cloak, Wolf Eyes, HEALTH, ACTRESS, Jenny Hval, Viet Cong, Weyes Blood, Circuit des Yeux, and more.
