“Seven Sisters” Community Walk
SEVEN SISTERS X EARTH CHURCH X BASILICA HUDSON – Dusk’s Rituals: A Meditation/Prayer Walk
With the amazing ritual presence of: Sondra Loring, James Powell, Khary Septh & Osun Zotique
Starting at 7 PM in the Gardens of The First Presbyterian Church – 369 Warren Street Hudson, NY – where you will receive self guided route maps
As the world re-opens, Erika deVries’ stunning exhibition, Seven Sisters/Take Care Of The Pain, at Basilica Hudson comes to a close. In this final event, participants are invited on a journey through our inherited griefs brought into relief through the pandemics of 2019-21. Before sundown, all will gather in the garden at First Presbyterian Church on Warren Street to set out on a self-guided meditative walk into the night towards deVries’ installation in neon at Basilica. Along the way, participants will be prompted/performed to/blessed and engaged through offerings by Earth Church and luminous and extraordinary Hudson Valley based artists, makers and thinkers. These Covid safe offerings will invite participants to reflect on their own laments, those for others, for the Earth and the intersection thereof, asking “how can possibility and transformation grow out of confronting grief head-on?
ABOUT THE ARTIST: ERIKA DEVRIES
As Artist in Residence at Basilica through the NEA funded Hudson As Muse program, artist Erika deVries has created a 12-foot tall neon installation titled “Seven Sisters” forged from the current collective need for healing.
The piece, which reads “TAKE CARE OF THE PAIN,” is on display in Basilica’s North Hall, best viewed at dawn, twilight and evening hours. Please note that while the public is welcome to view the artwork outside, the building itself is closed and no access will be permitted at any time. Masks required.
