Ecotopian Library, Hudson Opening Event
6PM – 7PM
At the Hudson Area Library, 51 N 5th St, Hudson, NY 12534
The Hudson Area Library, Toolshed and Basilica Hudson are pleased to announce the opening of Ecotopian Library, Hudson with a special event on November 12th from 6 to 7 pm. Ecotopian Library, Hudson is a unique, interactive corner of the Hudson Area Library for all ages that contains books, artworks, objects, stories and experiences that inspire visitors to think about the future they would like to see. It is an iteration of artist Mary Mattingly’s Ecotopian Library project specially developed in collaboration with Toolshed and with support from Basilica Hudson and the Hudson Area Library.
Born out of the belief that art and ecological thought can play a role in achieving positive change, Ecotopian Library, Hudson is a public toolkit and its resources will grow and change over time in response to users and specially designed events and workshops, as well contributions from the public.
The opening event will include a tour of Ecotopian Library, Hudson by Toolshed co-founders Susannah Sayler and Edward Morris (Sayler/Morris), the announcement of new special artworks, books and objects available for check out, the unveiling of a new locally focused film series that will be on display with headphones in the library, as well as a special screening of three short films with a Q&A by the filmmakers. Goodie bags will be given to all who come out to the event.
Mary Mattingly developed Ecotopian Library, Hudson as part of Basilica Hudson’s Hudson as Muse residency program with support from the National Endowment of the Arts, the New York State Council of the Arts and Toolshed. Toolshed is supported by the People and Plant Fund, Partners for Climate Action, Hudson Valley, the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, the Berkshire Bank Foundation and Syracuse University. This event was made possible by a CREATE Council on the Arts Community Arts grant.
