Spring 2013

Artist owned and operated since 2010, Basilica Hudson is a reclaimed 19th century factory converted into an art, performance, production and event space located steps from the Amtrak station on the waterfront of the historic town of Hudson, New York. Creative Directors, musician Melissa Auf der Maur and filmmaker, Tony Stone draw on their experience within their respective fields to bring thoughtfully curated events to the local community, while inviting people from outside the area to discover Hudson.

Basilica Hudson is excited to announce that we are gearing up for a new and busier season than ever. As a seasonal venue we primarily run programming from May through October, while open for specialty events and productions throughout the rest of the year. This year we will continue to host diverse local community events, including Columbia County Habitat for Humanity’s 20th Anniversary Gala on May 11, the Hudson Opera House Gala in September, our first Furniture Fair presented by Hudson Valley Furniture Makers during the October Arts Walk Weekend, and then finally, Thanksgiving weekend we will present Hudson’s first large-scale Farm + Flea Market.

We are thrilled to be launching with the third annual Ramp Fest this coming Saturday, May 4th noon-4pm. The Ramp is a spring delicacy and abundant in the Hudson Valley, the ramp will be at the center of original dishes created by super-talented chefs from upstate New York and the big city. It is great to start the season highlighting Hudson’s growing popularity as a culinary destination. Make this your first stop to sample a taste of Hudson. It’s going to be a delicious summer.

Once again our season’s curated programming will include film, music, visual arts and educational lecture events. On May 17th and 18th, we will host scientist and survivalist Guy McPherson for a weekend presentation and workshop on “Local Resiliency for the 21st Century”. The third edition of our music festival will take place the second week of September, in an effort reach the Bard student audience. The Basilica Screenings weekly series will resume June through October, bringing extraordinary films and filmmakers to the community. In July we will be launching BasilicaScope, our first weekend-long film festival with guest programmer Mike Plante from Sundance Film Festival. We are also partnering with Bard Center for Curatorial Studies (CCS) for an exhibition featuring performances and installations of moving image works by three prominent artists.

This season’s most ambitious undertaking is our commitment to making improvements to our North Hall cinema space, with new equipment and upgrades to the theater to create a more comfortable and pleasurable experience for our visiting filmmakers and audiences. We cannot do this without the support of our community! Stay tuned for details on how you can participate.  For starters, please mark in your calendars our month-long campaign kicking off with a Fireworks Fundraiser Dance Party on June 8th, 2013 – a not to be missed best seat in the city for Hudson’s Flag Day fireworks show that evening.

We are proud to announce our affiliation and our new resident education team, Kite’s Nest. An inspired group of people who have come together in their commitment to creating an extraordinary environment for children to work, play, and grow.
